This is an archive of new features, bug fixes, and games supported each release of Xfire. We've been doing releases every 2 to 3 weeks since we launched in January 2004.

Release notes for 1.94June 30th, 2008
- Video capture in Xfire In-Game (Scroll Lock + V) is now enabled by default for everyone. Please try capturing and sharing some videos!
- Unified voice overlay/configuration window in Xfire In-Game.
- Fixed several opacity and drawing errors with the voice overlay in Xfire In-Game.
- Fixed display problem when editing voice chat settings in a chat room.
- Fixed several performance issues on Windows Vista 64-bit.
- Fixed corruption problem when taking a screenshot (Scroll Lock + S) in a full-screen game, changing to windowed mode, and then taking another screenshot.

- Fixed several display problems with the activity report when you are logged in to the Xfire web site.
- Added ability to search for videos on the Xfire web site.
- Improved display of video capture data after exiting a game (go to Tools | Options | Video to learn more).
- Added video search box to infoviews in the videos tab.
- Fixed a possible crash with some games in Vista (including Lord of the Rings Online).

- Improved the in-game overlay when capturing a video to include video duration and file size.
- Added capability to detect some 64-bit games.
- Improved voice chat performance on certain sound cards.
- Fixed a problem that caused many video uploads to return an unknown error.
- Fixed many small problems with video conversion and uploading.
- Added Cool/Lame ratings to the video player on the web site. View top-rated videos on the Xfire home page.

Release notes for 1.90April 7th, 2008
- *beta* Added remote videos to the videos tab.
- *beta* Added recent videos in infoviews when you select a friend.
- *beta* Video uploads now work with videos that can be rendered with DirectShow filters on your computer. In particular, if you edit a video with Windows Movie Maker, Xfire will be able to convert it and upload it to your profile page.
- *beta* Video capture can now create .avi files larger than 2 gigabytes.
- *beta* Upload progress is displayed properly during video uploads.
- *beta* Fixed sound device screwup after capturing audio with a video.
- Standard skin is no longer being maintained or distributed; old versions of this skin do still work, however.
- Xfire full installer no longer works on Windows 98 or Windows ME; previously installed copies of Xfire will continue to auto-upgrade and function.

- Increased the screenshot limit of uploaded images from 15MB to 150MB.
- *beta* Added the ability to upload game videos to your profile page. Read more in the FAQ.
- Fixed bug with xfcodec.dll causing other AVI files to load improperly.
- Fixed CPU load issue with chat rooms with lots of people in them.
- Reworked voice chat internals to work much better on certain poorly-performing sound devices.
- Fixed Shadow skin display bug with non-default text size.
- Added buttons to the chat, screenshot, and video tabs on Shadow skin.

- Added the new Standard theme to the Shadow skin.
- Fixed many bugs in the *beta* video capture system, including support for Direct3D 7 games.
- Fixed a bug that could crash a game when using buggy skins and launching the game.
- Improved the icons for group voice chat.
- Fixed a problem that could cause balloon tooltips to flash for a long time when coming out of game (or standby mode).
- Temporarily disabled the World of Warcraft infoview because it could hang Xfire for a period of time; we plan to restore it next release.

- Clan/Guild news posted while you are running Xfire will be displayed as a balloon tooltip attached to the Xfire icon in the system tray.
- Clan/Guild logos changed while you are running Xfire will update immediately in the infoview.
- Fixed a problem when you log off of Xfire while uploading screenshots.

- When you select a person on your friends list, the infoview now shows the clans that person is in. This is part of our *beta* clans & guilds system.
- Fixed an issue that prevented laptops from going into S3 low-power mode when Xfire was running and sounds were enabled.
- Added game server information for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.
- Improved many minor user interface elements in Xfire In-Game 2.0.

- New games supported: Metin 2, Tabula Rasa Beta, Warhammer Online Beta, Avencast, 2Moons, DANCE! Online, Madden NFL 08, Shadowrun, FreeStyle Street Basketball, BioShock Demo, and Bioshock.
This has been a very large release, so there will no doubt be a few rough edges. Please let us know about them in the forums. We all hope you enjoy the new Shadow skin; it took quite a bit of time to build and we're very happy with the results.

- Xfire In-Game now works with games that run with elevated permission on Windows Vista. If you have any of these games then you will need to allow Xfire to run elevated when you are prompted.
- The new Xfire In-Game interface that uses the mouse is enabled for Guild Wars and the Dawn of War games.
- Added the ability to preview your friends' blogs in the infoview.
- Added the ability to join your friends' Ventrilo servers.
- Better support for running Xfire on Windows XP as a non-administrator user.
- Fixed Xfire In-Game key pass-through in FEAR.
- Improved several translations in Dutch, French, and other languages.

- Revamped Xfire to work better on Windows Vista (because of UAC). On Vista:
- Most Xfire files are now placed in c:\programdata\xfire\.
- Xfire itself runs non-elevated for this one release.
- Xfire In-Game now works with most games that do not themselves run elevated.
- If set to run on system startup, Xfire now properly launches on startup.
- Multiple Windows users can use Xfire on the same machine successfully.
- See games disabled on Vista for more game details.
- The infoview of your friends will show their screenshots when they are in a game.
- Fixed several relatively uncommon crashes with Xfire In-Game and Call of Duty 2.
- Lots of bug fixes and improvements to the new Xfire In-Game interface, currently only enabled in the Dawn of War games, including scroll wheel support, page up/page down support, and much more.

- Fixed a crash bug when blocking certain users from contacting you.

- When many game installers finish, we can now automatically detect that the new game is installed immediately without requiring an Xfire restart. If you find installers where this does not work, please post this information in our forums.
- Chat rooms with auto-selected voice servers now continue even when the voice host leaves.
- Changed the add friend dialog to be embedded in the main window.

Windows 98 is a very old operating system which is difficult to support. Microsoft is discontinuing its support for Windows 98 soon. We are considering discontinuing our support of Windows 98 by the end of this year. If you have a useful opinion about this, please let us know on the forums.

- Added a new system of additional game data. When looking at a friend's infoview:
- World of Warcraft now displays the friend's realm.
- Battlefield 2 now displays the friend's bf2 name, and lets you look up his official rank and statistics.

- Added support for Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). If you have a NAT/firewall device that blocks some UDP traffic, Xfire will try to configure it using UPnP to enable voice chats and personal file transfers to any of your friends.
- Fixed a bizarre problem when clicking on certain ads in Xfire with Firefox as your default browser (previously, certain ads would open up multiple seemingly unrelated tabs).

- Significant improvements to direct file transfers. The infoview shows uploads and downloads separately, completed downloads have a link to open them, and resuming an aborted transfer now works seamlessly.
- Voice call enhancements: added different send and receive ringing sounds, added connect and disconnect sounds, and removed the dialog to accept a call.
- Changed custom friend groups to save them in the database. If you use Xfire from multiple computers you should see your friend groups in the same order from every computer.
- Organized and cleaned up the chat window Actions menu and the friends tab context menu.
- Updated the games page to show games with lobby support in group chats.
- Added logging for group chats if you have enabled chat logging in Tools | Options | Chat.

Thank you for supporting us all this time, whether you're an old timer or if you just signed up last week. We work very hard to improve Xfire for you, and your feedback has been awesome. An important part of Xfire is building friendships, and so as a birthday present we have increased the friend limit to 500!
- Added the ability to invite more people in a chat window; one-to-one chats are automatically converted to group chats when you do this.
- Fixed Friends' Favorites in the Servers tab; they now work well.
- Your current upload/download rates are now displayed in the tray tooltip.
- Added a "message of the day" to group chats.

- Added balloon tray tooltips which are displayed every time a friend logs on or logs off, and every time a file download starts or completes. They can be disabled in the Tools | Options menu in the General tab.
- Changed the logo to the new official Xfire logo. We hope you like it!
- Major improvements to the Tools | Manage Screenshots dialog. Hit Scroll Lock + S while playing a game to take a screenshot.
- Xfire skins downloaded through the file download system now have a link in the infoview to select the new skin.
- Removed all DNS lookups from the file download system. This should make Xfire file downloads work for certain users that could not perform the lookups.

Release notes for 1.32
- New full installations from the web site will no longer use an LSP for network game detection; we use a newer method that does not have some of the drawbacks of LSPs. This behavior will be included in release 1.33 for updates if it works well..
- We've fixed numerous bugs with the file download system, and will be performing another file download test by sending a new Xfire wallpaper image on January 31st (we did not send this file on January 17th).
- Fixed 16x16 icon for Joint Operations: Escalation.
- Disabled Xfire In-Game for Doom3 until we fix the keyboard issue.

Release notes for 1.31
- Launch menu added to the right-click context menu of the Xfire tray icon.
- More improvements to the downloads tab, including being able to archive and delete files. We will be performing another file download test by sending a new Xfire wallpaper image on January 17th.
- Fixed some color and size problems with changing skins.
- Fixed a problem where chat windows would not flash in the taskbar when you receive an IM.
- Fixed a bug if you have multiple friendship invitations pending when you logon; you will now see them all immediately.
- Fixed a problem with certain keys getting stuck in games.
- Fixed flickering problem in the InfoView on the servers and downloads tabs.
- Fixed a problem with PunkBuster banning on certain OpenGL games. We believe all of these issues have been resolved. If anything new crops up, please report it to the forums.

- We have made some major changes to the download tab. We're working on a channel-based system
for file distribution, including Xfire updates. Our first test will start on
January 3rd, when you will download an Xfire desktop image. The list of available
files is now on a web page instead of in the Xfire client.
- Xfire In-Game now works with Teamspeak Overlay.
- Battlefield 1942 server information is shown correctly even when multiple game servers are run on the same server computer.
- Updated interface text for German, Danish, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese, Swedish, Chinese Traditional, and Chinese Simplified.
- Fixed server names from being truncated for Counter-strike Source.

First, a renaming--what we used to call "in-game messaging" or
"cross-game messaging" is now simply "Xfire In-Game".
- Some internal changes with miniprofiles to reduce load on our
servers... keep using 'em like crazy!
- Added configuration of the key to bring up Xfire in game--go to Tools
menu, Options, Display tab.
- Added per-game configuration of Xfire in game through the Xfire in game
menus. Press Scroll Lock + X in game, then hit F2 to go to the main
menu and follow the configuration from there. You can move and resize
the main window and alert windows and adjust their opacity.
- Added support for Xfire in game in StarCraft.
